TEASER
Danny held Roxanne close and barely saw it over her shoulder - a woman with a flowing scarf and his '57 Porsche Speedster went roaring down the seaside highway. Then they were gone!
ACT 1
Danny had been saving for his new Honda, a little each month. Finally his old clunker just gave out; it was time to get a new car. Danny checked his savings account and headed down to the Honda dealer. As he pulled up to the lot, the new Porsche's on the lot across the street looked like they were smiling at him. Danny knew he couldn't afford one, but since he was there, he wanted to see them. He looked at several cars on the lot and was thinking; "Gee, I could buy a house for these prices." He saw an awesome 911 Twin Turbo on the showroom floor and was deep in Porsche fantasy when the salesman introduced himself.
All Danny could say was, "she sure is a beauty." After a couple minutes of chatting, the salesman knew Danny could only afford to look. "Maybe someday", Danny uttered. "I understand," said the salesman. Danny was coming back to his senses and getting ready to head back over to the Honda lot when the salesman told him about a dealer, Tex's Auto Emporium, who was rumored to have a clean vintage Porsche at a reasonable price. It was still early in the morning, so Danny headed over to check it out.
Tex's Auto Emporium had a lot of used sedans Danny wasn't interested in. As he was getting ready to leave, an exuberant voice came over the intercom; "Howdy Son! I'm Tex! Don't leave yet; I've got a deal for you!" Before Danny could escape, Tex was upon him and shaking his hand. Danny explained he had heard of a Porsche, but didn't see one, so... "I've got the Porsche!", Tex exclaimed as he clapped Danny on the back. "She's a vintage '57 Porsche Speedster - a classic! I keep her locked up out back. Come on back and check her out, son!" Danny was cautious, but curious too, couldn't hurt to look at the old piece of junk.
When Tex opened the shop doors, Danny couldn't believe his eyes. There was the most stunning classic beauty he had ever seen. She seemed to whisper out to him, "I'm yours now, Danny." Danny asked Tex, "How old is this car? It looks brand spanking new!" Tex Replied, "She's a 1957 Speedster; that's how she looked when they brought her in. How much can you afford son?" Danny explained that he had saved up $5,000 for the down payment on his new Honda. When Tex told Danny he could have the car for $5,000, Danny wondered if it had an engine. "Aren't these old classics worth at least ten times that amount in this condition?", asked Danny. Tex let Danny check the car out bumper to bumper - she was showroom new, flawless.
"You see, the folks who brought this car in practically gave it to me; that's how I can pass the savings along to you." Tex started. "Why would they practically give away such a valuable car?", Danny asked. Tex hesitated, then told Danny the story: "It's like this son... the old folks who brought this car in said it belonged to their son, Randell. Randell went insane with obsession about a girl named Linda. He got so bad, his parents had to put him in a mental institution..." Danny interrupted, "Who is Linda?"
Tex continued..."The way they told it, Linda was the original owner of this car. Apparently, she was a beautiful girl with flowing auburn hair. She loved to wear scarfs that fluttered in the breeze when she drove her convertible Speedster. One night, there was a big party up by Shadow Cliffs. You know, that old resort up above the seaside? It was foggy that night. When the party broke up, there was a terrible accident. Many cars went over the cliff and into the sea. There were no survivors. This little car was sitting on the side of the road in pristine condition, just like she looks today. Linda was never found. Randell went insane, babbling some lunacy about this car being possessed by Linda's ghost. His parents were eager to get rid of it. But that's all so silly. You don't believe in ghosts, do you son? Let's take her out for a test drive."
ACT 2
The test drive clinched it - Danny was in love. "OK Tex, you've got yourself a deal!" After finishing the paperwork, Tex told Dan to take some business cards to give to his friends. Danny noticed one different card in the bunch he picked up - Heather's Costume Boutique.
As Danny was starting to drive home in his new car, he spotted a beautiful girl with auburn hair, a scarf, and an arm full of school books at a bus stop just in front of Tex's lot. She called out to him; "Excuse me sir, I don't usually do this, but could you give me a lift to my girlfriend's house?" "Sure; hop in!", Danny replied. They chatted along the way. Her name was Roxanne and Danny liked her. When they got to her girlfriend's house she asked Danny if she could have his phone number and call him later.
On the way home. Danny was thinking, "I must be dreaming; this has been the luckiest day of my life!" When Danny got home, his friends came over and complimented him on his gorgeous new Porsche Speedster. Later that afternoon, Roxanne called. She had been invited to a cocktail party at the Shadow Cliffs Resort and she wanted Danny to take her there. "Shadow Cliffs?", Danny thought, "that's an odd coincidence". He wanted to get to know Roxanne better, so it was a date.
When Danny picked up Roxanne, she looked ravishing. She was wearing a shear dress, complimented with gold and diamond accessories. As they were driving up the beach cliff road to the party, Roxanne turned the radio on. A sultry voice said, "She's evil, Danny. Get rid of her." "Did you hear that?" Danny asked Roxanne. "Did you hear that voice on the radio?" "Just the romantic music," Roxanne replied.
They arrived at the party. Then, things got stranger. Roxanne started acting possessed. Her eyes rolled back white into her head and she started chanting; "I must jump... Linda is making me jump."
Roxanne bolted from the car and ran over towards the railing at the top of the cliff. The voice came on the radio again; "Don't let her jump Danny... Stop her from jumping!" Danny looked at the radio in shock - "Linda?" The voice persisted, "Don't let her jump, Danny!"
Danny cried out, "Roxanne wait! Don't jump!" He ran to her as fast as he could. He grabbed her in both arms and held her tight. That's when it happened. Danny held Roxanne close and barely saw it over her shoulder - a woman with a flowing scarf and his '57 Porsche Speedster went roaring down the seaside highway. Then they were gone!
Danny arranged a ride home. Roxanne said it was as if she had been in a trance. She assured Danny she was OK by the time he dropped her off. Danny got home late and reported his car stolen; then he went to bed. Was it Linda? Linda's ghost? Was it Randell? Was he going insane, like Randell before him?
ACT 3
The next morning, Danny got a call from the police department. They asked him to meet them at Tex's Auto Emporium. When he arrived there, he was escorted back to the shop to identify a car. There she was... just like new... his '57 Speedster. "How did she get here?", Danny inquired. The officer told him Tex had been involved in scams before, but this one was the topper. Roxanne and Tex were both in custody. "Roxanne? How did Roxanne get involved in all this?"
The officer explained; Roxanne wasn't Roxanne at all. She was actually Heather from Heather's Costume Boutique - Tex's cousin and partner in crime. Linda's voice? That was simply a tape recorder Roxanne/Heather had slipped behind the radio. The car thief was actually Tex, wearing a wig and scarf from Heather's Costume Boutique. Apparently, Tex was planning on stealing the car and then selling it again somewhere else for a tidy profit.
As the police were loading Tex and Roxanne/Heather into the patrol car, they were both protesting; "We didn't want to do it - Linda made us do it!" "OK... you can explain it to the judge," the officer said. "What about the car?" Danny asked. The officer replied, "We ran the registration and license. She comes back clean with you as the legal owner. You're free to take her home."
As Danny started his drive back home, he was thinking back on all the bizarre events that had occurred the night before. He decided to play a little music to take his mind off of it. When he turned on the radio, a sexy voice whispered softly to him; "You're mine now, Danny."
